Therapist & Founder

Lawrence Lovell, LMHC

I’m Lawrence Lovell, LMHC, the founder of Breakthrough Solutions.

I have worked with many couples over the past 10+ years of being in the mental health field providing over 10,000 hours of therapy.

As a husband and father of two young kids (ages 4 & 2), I know firsthand how challenging it can be to communicate well when life gets stressful. But I’ve also learned that it doesn’t have to be that way.

This is why I’ll be hosting a live webinar on Saturday May 17, 2025 (from 12pm – 3pm Est) that will show you how to transform the way you communicate with your partner—so you can handle disagreements calmly, feel heard, and get back to enjoying the time you have together.

Are you considering counseling?

What can you expect from your therapist?

Sometimes, the benefits of therapy may seem vague. Today, we want to share with you five qualities that we believe every therapist should have so you can better understand how therapy is designed to help you. In therapy sessions, our aim is to support and guide you using these qualities.

Genuine Empathy

A therapist should be able to empathize with you effectively and make you feel heard and understood.

Nuanced Perspective

A therapist should provide perspective that you either did not have or that you should consider putting more weight on.

Empowering Education

A therapist should be able to educate you in subjects that you were not aware of.

Effective Tools

A therapist should be able to help you develop approaches to use in difficult situations. They should also help you feel confident that you can employ these tools when needed.

Mindful Awareness

A therapist should be able to guide you towards improving your awareness. That awareness should help you to make better decisions when you are facing a challenge.

The wellness team here at Breakthrough Solutions makes an effort to use these qualities in each of our sessions with our clients.

Relationship Issues

It can be difficult to get on the same page as your partner.

That can stem from:

Unhealthy communication between you and your partner.

Accountability challenges in different areas between you two.

You have a desire for a healthy partnership.

You want to feel good about “doing life” with your partner and you’re right, you should feel at peace in your relationship.

Couples counseling Is designed to help partners form a healthy relationship with each other.

We help couples go from navigating their relationship in an unhealthy way to thriving in their partnership together.

Couples Counseling is designed to help you and your partner:

– Enhance communication

– Resolve conflicts

– Improve relationship satisfaction

– Foster emotional intimacy

– Address specific issues

– Explore individual dynamics

– Strengthen commitment

Avoid the consistent:

– conflict and tension in your relationship

– misery and despair of a unhealthy relationship

“Healthy couples do not live a “problem free” life. They live a life with effective and efficient communication to resolve issues as they come.”

– Lawrence Lovell

Frustration & Anger

“Anger is a signal that something needs attention and care.”

Frustration and anger can be threatening your personal growth and certain relationships that you care about.

Even if you don’t experience explosive anger outbursts, unresolved frustration and anger can silently impact your well-being and relationships. We target frustration and anger, regardless of how they manifest in your life.

When you feel frustrated, what you say and what you do still matters. That tendency to respond negatively with anger can cause certain relationships that you have and environments that you are in to be more tense and even volatile at times. Many people do not want to be in relationships or environments like that.

The truth is, you want to feel in control of your anger responses in difficult and challenging situations.

You shouldn’t be ashamed of getting support, education, and training in any area of your life and this is one of them.

We decided to concentrate on anger because we’ve never met anyone who hasn’t gotten angry and yet many people haven’t gotten training or education on how to navigate frustration and anger, one of our more volatile emotions, in a healthy way.  This is personal and we understand that.

In session, you can find relief from the persistent frustration and simmering anger that weighs you down. Through therapeutic techniques tailored to your unique needs, you can reclaim a sense of inner calm and emotional equilibrium.

Avoid the feeling of doubt that you have of yourself.

Avoid the burn of failed relationships.

Avoid the pain of regret

Counseling to address frustration and anger will help you to:

– Identify your triggers and underlying causes.

– Develop your self-awareness and self-control.

– Learn healthy effective coping strategies.

– Challenge and reframe unhelpful thoughts that you may experience at times.

– Improve your communication skills in difficult situations.

– Address underlying emotions that you may be avoiding.

– Practice preventive stress management techniques.

– Develop your empathy for others and perspective-taking.

– Enhance your emotional regulation skills.

– Create a relapse prevention plan when you fall short, it happens.

“Anger is an emotion, not an identity. It’s important to separate the feeling from who you are as a person.”
